Inspirational Way You Can Make a Difference

Watch this video, then share it with everyone you know. The Urban Farming Guys are rare on so many levels. Firstly, they’re brave enough to go into the neighborhoods that are desperate for support, and they stay there – despite the thefts, the fires, the gunshots, the murders – everything the majority run away from, and ignore.

The transformations they create are life changing. Restoring hope to those who have none is the best result anyone could aim for. Growing healthy food free from the domination of Monsanto is an extremely valuable lesson.

I hope this video encourages you to look for ways you can make a difference where you live. Please donate, and know that a life filled with hope rewards everyone:

Entrepreneur Solves Plastic Pollution Of The Sea

The more we buy, the more waste we collect. Instead of eating fresh, locally grown produce, we eat convenience food that has extra packaging. The rise in plastic being dumped into the seas has grown to a shocking level, and it is risking the lives of everything living there.

David Katz is a serial, creative entrepreneur who has found the solution to resolve the massive risk to the environment.

I enjoy the beach and find myself most at home there,” he said. “I have been so discouraged, as the more I travel, that it’s been difficult to find places that haven’t been spoiled by people viewing the beach as a dumping ground.

David Katz has set up The Plastic Bank to remove plastic waste from the world’s oceans, while at the same time empowering people living in poverty to raise their standard of living. The Plastic Bank will exchange harvested waste plastic for micro-credit loans and access to 3D print shops, making what was once rubbish into the raw material for products like tools, parts, household items and more, which the organization believes will allow individuals to be self-sustaining.

Katz said the idea is to give the impoverished people a chance to become entrepreneurs of their own.

The more people demand a preference for products made from recycled social plastic, companies will start to meet that demand. The importance of social plastic over other recycled material is that it’s helping the world ascend from poverty. It’s a great business model.

Green Entrepreneurs Put The Planet Before Profit

man standing on top of a mountain

Entrepreneurs who incorporate ways to save or protect the environment find the resulting satisfaction is more important than a race purely for profits.

One example is Spencer Brown, who created Rent-A-Green Box, following the research that over 20% of the population moves every year, and he realized how much waste resulted from packaging materials that were used only once and then thrown away.

Rent-A-Green Box supplies its customers with 20 different environment friendly products acquired through recycling post-consumer trash.

The green sector is perfect for creative entrepreneurs who can develop new ways to improve existing products. They’re mostly cost saving too, making many ways that everyone benefits from caring about the environment.

Icelandic Entrepreneur Has Solution To World’s Water Shortages

Glass Of Water

Aqua Omnis ehf of Reykjavik, Iceland, wants to transport their abundant supplies of high-quality spring water in supertankers to areas of the world that are in desperate need. Managing Director, Thorsteinn Gudnason, said “Iceland has vast amounts of spring water naturally filtered by mountains and lava terrain for hundreds of years that otherwise goes to waste.”

The United Nations say by 2030 almost half the Earth’s population may face water scarcity.

Funding is in place for the company to start operating commercially within 3 years. The water is drinkable without requiring treatment, which reduces a lot of costs.

This is an excellent way to use natural resources to solve one of the major problems in deprived countries, without causing further concerns for the environment. Clean water is essential to good health, so this project is a major breakthrough.

Entrepreneur Provides Resources To Conscious Startups

group of business people

Jeffrey Cherry has formed a partnership with the Maryland Center of Entrepreneurship called the Conscious Venture Lab. “This is about building businesses in local communities, we’re trying to find those entrepreneurs that others aren’t looking for.”

Each entrepreneur accepted into the 6 month training program will receive $25,000 to $50,000 in initial funding from the Porter Group, in exchange for a 5 % equity stake in their business. This is a very low release of equity for all the support and mentorship these entrepreneurs will receive.

Jeffrey became interested in conscious entrepreneurs after consulting on a book called “Firms of Endearment” that looked into what made firms like Wegmans, Chipotle and Costco successful. The authors found that these companies offered a positive experience, and brought pride to all stakeholders including customers, employees and the greater community.

“This is a new story about capitalism,” he said. “We find entrepreneurs that want to do something, and bring the community around them to help stay the course.”

This is the online application form, and even if you don’t live in the US, it’s worth entrepreneurs going through all the details to establish a serious, and sustainable plan for your business.

Entrepreneurial Builder Invents Affordable Houses

man writing on board

Barry Jackson of Lancashire, England has designed unique and adaptable living modules called HiveHaus. Each one is hexagonal, and created to fit together in many different options. It’s infinitely flexible, and easy to expand as your needs change.

Barry was featured assembling his first example of how the HiveHouse modules fit together on George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces TV programme. I love watching how innovative entrepreneurs are in designing small spaces to suit their various needs, and the HiveHaus really caught my attention.

The HiveHaus is economical to run, and can be built for a variety of uses, such as a special place to relax, a place to exercise in peace, a place to work without being disturbed, a place for your hobby without having to tidy everything away afterwards, a place where you can write that book you’ve always said you would, a place where your teenage son’s band can practice without annoying the neighbours. It could also be extra guest accommodation, a student den, a granny annexe, or a holiday let – your imagination is the only limit.

The HiveHause would make a perfect home office, and as an added bonus it can move when you do. Check out their site, and see how you can work with Barry to build something to exactly meet your requirements:

Low Cost Light Bulbs For Poor Countries

lightbulb above man's head

Nokero invented solar powered light bulbs for the poor, particularly those in Africa and India, where they spend as much as 30% of their income on kerosene-based fuels. Kerosene contributes to air pollution, and causes deadly fires.

Solar power lasts longer, costs less money, and doesn’t cause fires. Apart from saving lives, it can also change them – everything from allowing children to study after dark to letting stores stay open longer.

Nokero’s developments are now distributed to over 100 countries.

Natural & Organic Products Prove Successful For Entrepreneurs

fresh organic vegetables

Entrepreneurs who care about the environment, and want to produce healthy, organic food, and products for the body and the home without toxic ingredients, are finding their passion is being rewarded.

Consumers are more aware of the dangers of processed food, and how chemicals in products cause allergies, and the large manufacturers are aware of this trend. Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, General Mills, Campbell’s Soup and Danone have all begun to acquire natural brands.

The NEXT Accelerator was started by New Hope to provide a subscription-based online resource for start-up natural products companies. They offer a wide range of resources, including videos and articles by experienced entrepreneurs; tutorials, spreadsheets and documents for legal and regulatory needs; and a directory of manufacturers, distributors and other vendors.

Check this site out for support and advice on bringing your product to market.
